Telling America’s Story through the Art of Craft

Exemplifying innovation, creativity and technical merit, each of the 120 exhibitors reflects the story of contemporary American craft in one of 12 categories: basketry, ceramics, decorative fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, wearable art and wood.
Wednesday, April 21: Preview Benefit Night 6:30–9:30 pm: Cocktail Buffet, Music by the Smithsonian Jazz Trio, First Choice Shopping.
Thursday, April 22 and Friday, April 23: 10 am-8 pm
Saturday April 24: 10 am-6 pm
Sunday April 25: 11 am-5 pm
Daily Admission (includes program): $15, $12 for seniors 65 and over, children 12 and under free (no strollers).
Group Rate (10 or more): $10 by advance purchase.
Thursday, April 22, 5:30-8 pm: Connect and Collect: A Reception for Young Professionals. A special evening to see friends, learn about Fine Craft, tour the Craft Show, and meet the artists. $20 per person, includes re-admittance to the show Friday-Sunday.
Afternoon lectures “Telling America’s Story through the Art of Craft” $40. Includes admission to the Smithsonian Craft Show and Light Refreshments.
Friday, April 23, 1-2:45 pm: “Making Conversations: Exhibitors on Inspiration, Process and Lessons Learned.” Dr. Diana N'Diaye, Curator, Smithsonian Folklife Festival talks with Smithsonian Craft Show exhibitors.
Saturday, April 24, 1-5 pm: “Contemporary Craft Considered.” Three lectures by faculty and friends of the Smithsonian Associates and the Corcoran College of Art and Design Masters Program in the History of Decorative Arts.
Thursday-Sunday: In collaboration with the Corcoran College of Art + Design (CCA+D), a series of demonstrations and talks focused on jewelry and light metal work will be given by Craft Show exhibitors and CCA+D artists. CCA+D will also present a juried exhibit of mixed media works by its students. Free.
